Adoptive Parents / Families (0-18 years old)
Adoption is a lifelong journey that can be deeply rewarding and fulfilling, though it may also present challenges. Following the granting of the Adoption Order, adoptive parents may be assessed for eligibility to access post-adoption support from our service.
We offer a range of services to all adopters in our region, including:
- Direct Advice and Signposting: Adoption Support for Families, Adoption Support for Agencies, and resources. Further information can be found in this leaflet
- Our duty team provides guidance and referrals to relevant services: 0800 023 4064 (Monday-Friday)
Our Family HUB: Weekly Meet-Up and Play Opportunity
The Family HUB is a friendly, term-time weekly meet-up, open to all adoptive families—even if your children are in school. New families are warmly welcomed to join us in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Our Games Group: Monthly Meet-Up for Young People (Aged 11–18)
The Games Group is a safe and supportive space for adopted children aged eleven–eighteen to engage in sports and games while developing social skills.
What to expect:
- Build familiarity with our staff
- Receive guidance and positive support from our post-adoption support professionals
- Enjoy fun activities in a nurturing environment
We manage a waiting list and assess each child’s suitability to ensure the group remains beneficial for everyone, while understanding individual needs.

Access Support from Our PATHways Co-ordinator
In partnership with Adoption UK, families can access tailored advice and support through our PATHways Co-ordinator. PATHways works with PATH – The Psychology and Therapy Hub is Adoption UK’s clinical and therapeutic service.
This multi-disciplinary team includes:
- Clinical and Educational Psychologists
- Psychotherapists and Family Therapists
- Therapeutic Practitioners
- Occupational Therapists
- Peer Support Workers
PATH offers therapeutic support to adoptive families facing challenges related to adoption. For more information, visit: PATHways
How to access support:
- Call our duty line on: 0800 023 4064
- Email: adoption@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk and request a referral to our PATHways Co-ordinator.
- Referrals must be made through your local regional adoption support team. Families are encouraged to contact their regional adoption service directly or speak with their named worker, if they have one.
Connected: Monthly Groups for Ages 7–25
Connected is run in partnership with Adoption UK, supporting adopted children and young people aged 7–25 through monthly groups. Led by Youth Workers and supported by Adoption Services, Connected offers a safe space to build confidence, friendships, and life skills.
How to join:
You can sign up independently via the website or get support from our Children and Young Person’s Worker.

Each child placed for adoption will have contact agreement. We provide advice and support regarding letterbox and direct contact arrangements.

Family Fun Days
We host family fun days twice a year. These events offer activities and a chance to meet other adoptive families and professionals – information is shared via our mailing list.
